skating after school program at frog pond

Skating After School

Skating After School is multi-week program that provides City students skating instruction, skate use, transportation between school and The Boston Common Frog Pond, and a healthy snack – all to enjoy a great afternoon of outdoor skating in one of Boston’s finest outdoor spaces. In addition, students get a season pass to the Boston Common Frog Pond and a one-year membership to U.S. Figure Skating. Skating lessons are given by top skating coaches from The Skating Club of Boston®.

Sponsored in large part by Friends of the Public Garden, the program’s goals are simple but important: Expose students to the pleasure and discipline of learning a new sport, the value of exercise and good nutrition, and the experience of being outdoors in America’s oldest and most treasured public park.

The Skating Club of Boston runs Skating After School as part of its public/private partnership with the Boston Parks Department to manage and promote year-round activities at the Boston Common Frog Pond. The Club considers the program an important form of outreach to the City of Boston, its home for the past hundred years, and many of the professional skating coaches from The Skating Club of Boston volunteer their time to instruct the students participating in the program. The program would not be possible without the added generous support of The Friends of the Public Garden.
